In-Home Care and Assisted Living Services in Appleby

Appleby-in-Westmorland is at the beating heart of Eden Country Care. It is where we first began providing private in-home nursing services to its residents. That’s over 20 years ago now and throughout those many happy years our success has seen us expand across Cumbria, but it was in Appleby where we first provided the elderly with services as simple as a friendly face serving a meal to more delicate issues, which are a privilege to provide, like the end of life care.

All of the Appleby care team members live in Appleby or one of its many beautiful surrounding villages. A care journey starts with Colette our Registered Manager. She plans a client’s home care with their family by finding out what their preferences are and making an assessment of their needs.

She introduces the care team to the family and keeps in touch with them throughout the care journey so that any changes in care are well-planned, timely, and introduced with sensitivity. Colette has daily contact with local home health services ensuring that our clients get the right support and advice about their health.

At the head of the team’s day-to-day activities is Sam. She’s well known in the community for ensuring the needs of all the people we support are met with professionalism, diligence, and respect. Sam is passionate about providing care that helps people remain independent, safe, and comfortable in the home they love and the community we are all part of together.

Sam provides daily support to all of our clients and families in the Appleby area. When carers or family members identify that a person needs extra support, such as equipment for their mobility or a blister pack for medication, Sam is always on hand to get things organised.

Julie, our senior carer, has worked in the Appleby private care team for over ten years. As well as her in-home nursing role she is on-call when the office is closed responding to anyone’s health issues or concerns. Day or night she’s there to make sure the people we care for get the help they need. She says, "I've been caring for people in the Appleby area for 13 years, and it's been a privilege to get to know so many different people and help them to stay living in their own homes. I love being able to help people, even if it's just popping to the chemist to sort out their prescription, it's the small things that make a big difference to people".

Appleby is a thriving caring community

Appleby is a friendly historic market town famous for its annual horse fair. Many of its residents have ties to farming and agriculture and are always on hand to help us during the winter months when flooding, ice or snow can make our carers journeys a bit more challenging.

Appleby has a wealth of services and activities for older people. It offers beautiful walks with plenty of places to find a seat where, on sunny afternoons, you can rest to the call of an umpire on the cricket ground or a duck on the river as it meanders through Appleby’s woodlands and under its bridges. On Fridays, the Cricket Club hosts a Warm Spot which provides a space for people to meet to enjoy hot food, a chat, and a quiet activity.

The town has many warm and welcoming pubs and cafes including The Hub which hosts various art and craft activities throughout the year and Bojangles which has a thriving book club. The town’s social media group Appleby Cumbria, co-managed by Eden Country Care, helps us keep an eye on the pulse of the community. It’s where residents find support and share local events like Coffee Mornings, Arts Society Meetings, Film & Food Evenings, and the many music events held at the Market Hall and The Hub.
